Happy June! I finally took a few pictures of those curtains I made a few months ago:



They're linen, with some lovely accent loops over a wooden dowel. I liked the fabric so much that I made a little wristlet this afternoon out of the remnants. Now I have a purse to match my curtains! (That's called accessorizing).



Just big enough for a phone and wallet.

Hi everyone!

A few pictures of the new road bike. It's 16sp, probably from the mid 90s somewhere (not sure of the year), and clearly a beautiful shade of blue.



Candace helped me clean it up and get all the parts oiled so they worked as smoothly as possible, and I've commuted to work with it a few times now. At some point, I'll probably put a rack on the back to hold my bags.

It'll be my only form of transportation for the weekend, so lets hope the bike (and my thighs) are up to the challenge.

We had our Mother's Day get together yesterday and it was a lot of fun! Mom loved her new necklace. Here are a few photos...

It was a warm sunny day, but it was too windy to enjoy the outdoors much. Mom and Dad did get to try out our new deck furniture...


And Jason and Reese had fun flying their SpiderMan kite!

Reese tried flying it herself....and quickly flew it right into a tree. Luckily Uncle Jason got it down without any trouble...

I know I've been promising to post these all week and I'm finally just getting around to it...here's how our living room looks now with the curtains and endtables. Now I just need to find two lamps and a few decorative items to put on the shelves under the endtables and this room will be finished (for now)!

Dad had a good 60th birthday, Amanda made a delicious Lemon Blueberry Cake, and he was very surprised when he opened his card...

and saw that he was getting a new gas grill...

We picked the grill up last night, and put it together this afternoon. It came unassembled, and the nice people at Wal-Mart did offer to put it together for us. But we figured it couldn't be that hard...until we opened the box, and saw all of the parts that it came with (there are even more pieces in the shadows that you can't see), and we started thinking - maybe we should have let them put it together....


Dad worked hard putting it together. Of course I worked just as hard telling him what screw and part went where ~ someone had to supervise and figure out the pictures on the instructions! :)

But truthfully, the grill went together without any problems. All of the pieces were there, and everything fit together beautifully. And when dad was finished, he had a shiny new grill to cookout on (dad even polished it up to get the fingerprints off before I took the photo!)...

We have to get either a new tank or converter for our old tank before we can use it. Which won't be a problem. I'll post a photo of dad the first time he cooks on it!

Or so we thought. It took the squirrels less than 24 hours to figure out how to pop open the lid...


Oh well...I guess the squirrels have to eat too... :-)

Our first harvest of the season ~ fresh oregano!! I'm going to try hanging them to dry, rather than put them in the oven on a low heat. I attached the bunches to a hanger, which makes it easier to hang them in a doorway or downstairs by the coal stove. This is the first time I'm doing it this way, so I hope it works!



The oregano tends to want to take over the flower bed, so we're probably going to have to rip some out...Amanda do you want any??

Service Team came today and installed the new railing. It will take some getting used to...it looks ok, but I'm just not used to seeing a railing on the front of the house! I'm sure it will grow on me in time!!




And one project leads to the next one...the landscaping! :) Did you notice in the photos that the one Alberta Spruce is gone?

While I was washing the dishes tonight, I looked out the window, and thought there was a skunk in the woods...until...he popped his head up, and I saw the red tuft! I was so surprised to see the Pileated Woodpecker eating on the ground. If you look closely, you can see the branch under him that he was getting his dinner from. It's always a treat seeing the Pileated. :)

Last Saturday's snowshoe to Lanham Lake. Stephan and I went with some of his friends who came up and stayed at the cabin this weekend. It was a short hike, only 3 or 4 miles RT, but the combination of snowshoes and 1000ft elevation gain in 1.5 miles made it a good workout :)

I would say we certainly earned a long soak in the hot tub afterwards!


The edge of the lake, under a foot of fresh powder. (The lake itself isn't much to see, it just looks like a big, snowy field.)



On the way up, we passed a nice couple making these awesome snowmen. The snowmen are perfect replicas of the two of them (I particularly liked the moss "beard").
